Tea was brought to Sri Lanka from China by the British in 1824. The area has the perfect conditions to produce a robust Ceylon Black Tea. In the 19th century this tea revolutionised tea drinking due to its sweet, deep, malty and complex taste.
Traditionally Earl Grey is a blend of Ceylon and the oil from the citrus plant, Bergamot. We have chosen to use a beautifully rich, robust, sweet and deep Ceylon, creating a bold, malty and smooth flavour that lends well to the citrus flavour that makes Earl Grey.
It takes around 200 kg of fruit to produce 1 kg of bergamot essence.
