Buchu is one of South Africa’s oldest known medicines and exports.  In 1821 it was listed in the British Pharmacopoeia as a medicine with potent natural anti-inflammatory properties. Buchu also has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, enabling it to act as a natural antibiotic with no side effects.

The taste is minty and fresh, crisp and deep. It can be re-infused until the cows comes home.

Indigenous tribes of South Africa believed Buchu to be like the rain: both feminine and masculine with the ability to pacify and excite. These peoples associated the richness of Buchu’s smell to its potency, relating it as an agent of transformation, on that encourages equilibrium.

Our Buchu has been sustainably harvested from the Wild for over 100 years. Wild harvesting supports the delicate Fynbos ecosystem, contributing to better plant and soil conditions as well as adaptation to climate change. These practices benefit the entire plant community and allow it to thrive. This results in a Premium Quality, Organic product. The farms we work with are part of community development initiatives.

It was used in WWI as an anti-septic and anti-bacterial for wounded soldiers.
